Russia calls Serbia-EU relations a marriage that begins with adultery

Russia accused the European Union of betraying Serbia's trust, describing their relations as a marriage that begins with adultery.

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the EU betrayed Serbia by offering Kosovo the possibility of joining the bloc.

In a Telegram post on Sunday, she said a summit between the bloc and Western Balkan states earlier this month was accompanied by rising tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, suggesting that Brussels' actions may have played a role in exacerbating the situation.

Brussels stated in the submission that Serbia and its breakaway region of Kosovo have what is described as “European perspective."

There is still political unrest between Serbia and Kosovo.

The arrest of a former ethnic Serb police officer by the Kosovo authorities sparked protests among Kosovo Serbs who strongly condemned it.
