Teenagers shot in custody

Two teenagers accused of being separatist fighters were shot dead in military custody in Wum in the North West region of Cameroon.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, were apprehended by gendarmes in the restive English-speaking region on January 1, 2023.

Authorities said the soldier who shot the victims at the facility was drunk.

Mimi Mefo Info quoted a military source as saying the boys were shot in the leg during interrogation.

They were not allowed to defend themselves against the crimes they were accused of being involved in, said another source who confirmed the report and said the teenagers are not separatist fighters.

Military authorities also confirmed the incident and said the teens were receiving medical attention.

"We are investigating the case, the officer involved will be punished if found guilty," authorities said.
